McMillan Herb Garden on the Radio

 

On Monday 2nd March 2014 Resonance FM have a one hour programme about the Herb Garden. 

Leanne Bower from Resonance FM writes "The McMillan Educational Herb Garden (to use its official title) is an oasis of calm in the ever increasing urban sprawl of Deptford, SE8. It is run by volunteers and provides workshops and horticultural education to local school children and adults alike. In the summer months, it is also a venue for acoustic performances and poetry. In this programme, Dave Suich interviews some of the organisers and volunteers in the garden and plays some of the recordings from the live events that have taken place there. Production by Stephen Elwell for Shopping Trolley Promotions and Leanne Bower for Resonance FM". 

The show is due to be broadcast on Monday 3rd March at 20:00. It will be repeated on Tuesday 4th March at 09:00. Listeners in London can tune in on 104.4FM, or online anywhere on www.resonancefm.com

Lol Coxhill 19 Sep 1932 - 9 July 2012

Lol Coxhill died in hospital last night aged 79. He had been seriously ill for several weeks.

The video above was shot in the McMillan Herb Garden, Deptford on 9 September 2007.  One of many times that Lol played in the Herb Garden, he was joined by drummer Steve Noble and double bassist John Edwards. John's daughter is the dancer.

In recent years Lol regularly played in the Herb Garden two or three times each summer with Steve and John or Charles Hayward, amongst many others.

Deptford Soil @ UTROPHIA

It is cold and windy so it is time for Deptford's hardiest perennials to move inside.

The McMillan Herb Garden and various good friends are taking a short stroll down the High Street to the comparative warmth of UTROPHIA to present "Deptford Soil". I cannot improve on what the Deptford Dame has said about creative processes, location etc, but I can promise a veritable cornucopia of aural and visual pleasures.

Artists include: Mick Bonfield, Carolyn Moon, Michael Tudor, Merlin Hayward, Richard Walker, Gordon Furn, Dave Aylward, Fred Aylward, Joy Bonfield Colombara, Dave Eyre, Diane Jones, Mark Moynihan, The Green Rebels and Sam Jack Russell.

Saturday 10th December 2011 is Home Grown Film Night.

McMillan Herb Garden

As part of the St Nicholas Community Festival on Saturday 12 June, the McMillan Herb Garden present three hours of postry and music featuring Paul the Poet, Leanne, Provoceteers, Bloco Maluco, Goy, Sons of Phycho Yogi and Ruthi Tooti.

The garden is here opposite St Nicholas Church.

Jazz at the Herb Garden

Chill-out on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon with Lol Coxhill (above) and Friends including Steve Noble at the McMillan Herb Garden in Deptford. Gate opens 4.00pm and the music is about 4.30 - 6.00pm. A family afternoon of accessible jazz, bring your own refreshments but remember you can retire afterwards to the Dog and Bell or Bird's Nest. Free, but the hat will be passed round.
